The Nebraska Academy of Martial Arts has been teaching area students since 1994. We are proud to have celebrated our 28th Anniversary this year.

NAMA's owner, Mr. Anthony Ray, is a 2nd generation martial artist. He holds a 6th Degree Black Belt and has been practicing taekwondo for 42 years. Mr. Ray is also a 2x amateur Omaha Golden Gloves Champion ('95 & '97). He holds 3rd Degree Black Belt in Unified Martial Arts. He has also trained in MMA, Hapkido, Judo, Jujitsu, and Kung fu.

Mr. Ray is a veteran and a Tech Sergeant in the US Air Guard, and holds training certifications in Combat Arms, Combatives, Baton, and Taser.

What is Taekwondo? Translated,Taekwondo means the "art of the hand in the foot" and originated in Korea. It is the world's largest martial art and has recently become an official event in the Summer Olympics.

The techniques have been tested for thousands of years. NAMA takes pride in maintaining the traditions in the Tenets of Taekwondo: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-control, and Indomitable Spirit. Maintaining an atmosphere of dignity and discipline in class is important to maintaining the traditions.

Students learning Taekwondo begin by practicing the basic skills that are the foundation of the art. These skills help build coordination and balance as the student progresses at his or her own  speed. Students learn forms, one-step sparring, pressure point tactics, and eventually joint locks, free sparring, some grappling and self defense, and board breaking techniques as they work through the belt ranks.
